Bamboo Damages Footpath

Bamboo virtually without exception will spread over time, but when the expansion starts to damage a council owned footpath you really need to act before you receive a rather serious letter from the council.

This Cornish property had bamboo planted to provide a privacy hedge at the base of the boundary wall, however planting a variety of Phyllostachys is always likely to end with problems.

This example had spread extensively through the gravel covered area, into the adjacent garden, along the base of the wall significantly into the block paved area in front of the property, and most worryingly, the rhizomes had grown under and through the wall and were now breaking the asphalt footpath surface with culms growing up in the footpath area that our clients were trying to manage.
