Sadly this is a very clear example of the consequences of allowing bamboo to grow in a domestic garden for many years, ingnoring the fact that new growth is popping up in places away from the original plant, simply cutting off the new growth does not make the problem go away.

Unfortunately for our clients the bamboo had been spreading for a number of years and had spread under the path into the lawn, had also started to grow under the patio area, it had also encroached into the neighbouring garden.

With the significant volume of rhizome mass that had spread under the path the only option was to excavate the entire area as can be seen in the photographs, this bamboo was suddenly a very expensive problem.

If your bamboo is spreading, it is likely to have spread far further than you imagine. Do not ignor the problem, it will only ever get worse.
