Huge Bamboo Excavation

Phyllostachys bamboo have the potential for significant growth and expansion, this example of mature Phyllostachys aureosulcata was certainly a beast.

The bamboo had been spreading into the turf area in front of the main clump for a number of years, with the new culm growth quickly removed by our clients before the culms had chance to grow, this removing of the new culms meant that much of the growth energy was retained in the rhizome mass and produced rapid and significant rhizome expansion, so much so that rhizome had spread completely up through the lawn area to the boundary wall, rhizome was also spreading quickly across the width of the garden. It had also encroached into the neighbouring property land.

Whilst the main clump area was not small it was not huge either, however the area impacted by the rhizome was huge, approximately 160 square metres !

To return the area to a useable state as quickly as possible, our team relayed turf across the excavated area immediately after the excavation.

Our photographs show the extent of the excavation area, our works were at the very start of August, the last photograph taken mid September just six weeks later, showing the established turf area.
